William B. Howard, Jr. ChFC®, CFP® - President
William is President of William Howard & Co. with 38 years of experience advising clients on financial matters. As expert, author, and leader, William brings financial skills and seasoned knowledge to his clients and his community.
By 1994, Worth Magazine had already listed him as one of the top 60 financial planners in the USA. He has been included over ten times as part of Medical Economics Magazine’s list of “Top 150 Advisors for Doctors.” He has been named annually as a Memphis Magazine 5 Star Wealth Manager since 2008, and the Dental Practice Report has listed William as one of “Best Financial Advisers for Dentists” for the past six years.
Mr. Howard has published articles in Medical Economics, American Medical News, Physician’s Management, and the Journal of Financial Planning. He is also a financial columnist for Medical Society Quarterly, a publication of the Memphis Medical Society.
He has been frequently quoted in the press publications such as The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Business Week, Medical Economics, and Investor’s Business Daily. Local news networks have interviewed William on financial related topics, and he was a regular guest panelist for a local cable television investment series. His firm’s success story has been featured in local and national media.
William received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi, continuing on to receive the Chartered Financial Consultant® and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional designations. He is a founding board member, past president and chairperson of the Financial Planning Association of Greater Memphis. He is a member of the editorial review board for the Journal of Financial Planning and a past member of the adjunct faculty of the College for Financial Planning.
He is a member of the Memphis Planned Giving Council and the Financial Planning Association. William was selected Memphis Executive of the Year in 2009 by the International Association of Administrative Professionals.
He enjoys spending time with his children, exercising, listening to music, and playing guitar.
Sheila C. Akin - Financial Paraplanner
Sheila works closely with the financial planners in all areas of the planning process. Her responsibilities include organizing client data and creating the reports and assumptions used in the financial analyses. She is responsible for financial plan updates and retainer services as well as training staff members in these areas.
She joined the firm in 1996 after earning a BA in Management Information Systems from the University of Memphis and working with a local CPA firm for seven years. She received her Financial
Paraplanner Qualified Professional™ (FPQP™) designation in 1998.
Sheila is an avid reader and
enjoys playing bridge, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time with her
three children and eight grandchildren. She is thrilled to have her first great-grandchild and hopes to have
Brian D. Barthol - Financial Analyst
Brian joined William Howard in 1997 as a Financial Planning Intern and after completing his graduate work, became a full-time member of the firm in 2000. His job duties include financial planning analysis, performance reporting, portfolio monitoring, as well as securities and market analysis.
He provides research, writing, and editing assistance in the creation of the quarterly investment newsletter. He manages the company website and provides technical assistance to staff members as needed. He also supports with client services and daily portfolio reconciliation tasks. Brian received a BBA in financial services and a MBA from the University of Memphis. He is currently pursuing the Certified Financial Planner certification.
Brian is an proud supporter of the University of Memphis Tigers. He enjoys working in the yard, cooking for family, time at the lake with friends, and visits to the Great Smoky National Park.
Judy B. Carmichael, CAP-OM® - Executive Assistant/Financial Planning Assistant
serves as our Senior Executive Assistant and Financial Planning Assistant. In
these roles, she assists with client services, office management, and the
financial planning process. Judy joined the firm in 1999 with 15 prior years of
experience in the banking industry.
has a degree in business administration from Strayer University and three
professional designations; the Financial Paraplanner Qualified Professional
(FPQP), Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) and the Organizational
Management (OM) designation. She is an
active member of her church and enjoys music, travel, and photographing
memories of family and friends.
Christopher D. Pack, CFP® - Financial Analyst
Chris joined the firm in 1996 as a Financial Planning Intern. His current duties include portfolio monitoring, securities and market analysis, and investment planning. He is responsible for statistical analysis and modeling, performance reporting, and special projects. In addition, he also serves as the Chief Compliance Officer for William Howard & Co. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Finance from Excelsior College in New York, continuing on to receive the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional designation.
Chris is a retired Captain with 26 years in the Active Army and National Guard. He served two Combat Tours in Baghdad and Iraq. His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Action Badge. He is an avid woodworker and gardener.
W. Barker Howard, III - Financial Planning Assistant
Barker joined the
William Howard & Co. team in June of 2017 as an intern. He supports
the staff in daily operations and assists in all areas of the financial and
investment planning process.
He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2016 with
a degree in Business Management. At Ole Miss, he served as a worship music
leader and worked on staff for Campus Crusade for Christ. Barker is also
an avid golfer and loves to play guitar.
